GWS 2026

At Gallery Weekend Stockholm - Extened, Arnstedt Östra Karup will show works by the three Swedish artists: Gabriel Karlsson, Viktor Kopp and Marcus Matt.

Gabriel Karlsson, Viktor Kopp and Marcus Matt approach their practices intuitively, exploring the boundaries between medium, motif, and form. During Gallery Weekend Stockholm, Arnstedt will present their works side by side, creating a dialogue between three distinct artistic practices.

Gabriel Karlsson combines traditional mould-making techniques with a conceptual approach, inviting reflection on how sculpture can exist between inner and outer space. He often works with everyday objects, reshaping and reusing them to create subtle, contemplative sculptures and installations. His works form a dialogue between objects, each moving beyond its ordinary form to communicate on its own terms.

Gabriel Karlsson, (b. 1988 in Stockholm, Sweden) lives and works in Malmö, Sweden. He received his MFA from Malmö Art Academy in 2019. His work has previously been shown at Malmö Konsthall, Ravinen in Båstad, Artipelag in Stockholm, Skissernas Museum in Lund, Landings Project Space in Vestfossen (Norway), Arnstedt Östra Karup, Galleri Ping-Pong and Study For Art Platform in Stockholm. In 2021, Gabriel Karlsson was awarded the Fredrik Roos Scholarship.

In Viktor Kopp’s work, boundaries generate the paintings. ”Kopp’s new suite of paintings emerges through the line, the circle, and the fields they produce. Here the border never appears as neutral separation but as the engine of the painting itself. The door, for example, functions less as passage than as possibility – as though the painting lingered on its own transitions,” Rebecca Lindsmyr writes.

Viktor Kopp (born 1971 in Stockholm, Sweden) lives and works in Stockholm. Kopp received his MFA from Malmö Art Academy in 2000. Kopp has previoilsy shown at Moderna Museet, Malmö Art Museum, Ystad konstmuseum, Lunds konsthall, Turku Art Museum, among others. Viktor Kopp was awarded IASPIS New York Fellowship at ISCP in 2013, the Edstrand Foundation Scholarship in 2012 and the Ellen Trotzig Grant in 2001.

Marcus Matt’s painting is characterized by an intimate connection and familiarity with the material and the process of working. Everyday observations, as well as inner images and impressions from literature or art history, all become part of a process in which the boundary between life and artistic practice is blurred. Some paintings are executed directly, in a single sweep, while others are built up slowly through many thin layers of paint and light.

Marcus Matt (b. 1992 in Dalköpinge, Sweden) lives and works in Malmö. He received his MFA from Malmö Art Academy in 2017 and studied at Cooper Union, New York, in 2014. His work has previously been shown at Ravinen Båstad, Trelleborgs Museum, Kristiansand Kunsthal, Malmö Konsthall among others. In 2025, Marcus Matt was awarded Edstrandska Foundation Scholarship.
