The gallery is located in Östra Karup, a village on the Bjäre Peninsula in southern Sweden. Established in 1998, the gallery is housed in a 400-year-old mill building that has been carefully restored and expanded. Anstedt Östra Karup`s annual program presents a diverse range of contemporary art, featuring both renowned Nordic artists and emerging talents. The sculpture garden, located outside the gallery, adds to the visitor experience by providing a lively outdoor space for art, making it a popular attraction on its own.
Karup, right next to the E6 motorway where Skåne meets Halland. In 1998, the 400-year-old mill building was converted into a gallery. Today, every part of the farm is a gallery, and since its inception, new large exhibition rooms have been added. The gallery exhibits both well-established and young artists.
Surrounding the gallery is a sculpture garden with a winding stream. In the green rooms, visitors can view around twenty sculptures of various materials and sizes. It is also possible to simply stroll around in peace and quiet. New sculptures are constantly being added, blending in with those we have had the privilege of displaying for several years.
The last miller family moved out of the Boningshuset in 1997. It is now also part of the gallery. The interior is sparsely furnished with old furniture, the light is soft and tranquil, and there are bouquets of flowers on the table.
As the gallery has three different exhibition rooms, several artists are shown at the same time. This gives visitors more opportunities to experience something new when they visit the gallery in Östra Karup.
